Boomer

My grandfather Ted Ion Boomer (“T.I.”) descends from a family that has been in North America since the coming of the Mayflower!

It begins with my 9th great-grandfather Joshua Boomer (born in 1590, Essex Co., England). I know little about the man, although his son was the first of the Boomers to arrive in America as a servant to the first landowner in Freetown, Massachusetts.  Matthew Boomer and his wife Elinor Peckham gave birth to my 7th great-grandfather Matthew Boomer (2nd) in Newport, Providence Rhode Island. He and his wife Hannah Church had Caleb Boomer, my 6th great-grandfather, in Bristol, Massachusetts. He and his wife, Jane Weld, had a large family of 14 children (6 of whom died young)- one of which was my 4th great-grandfather. William Boomer, born in Rhode Island emigrated with his wife Elizabeth Wordell to Windham township, Ontario, Canada. He had been a private in the war of 1812, but may have been turned off by his countrymen. He and his wife were Baptists and pacificsts who came to Canada to settle in a largely Loyalist community. Their son Phineas Boomer, my great x 3 grandfather, was American-born (from Jefferson County), but he and his wife Johanna Edmonds stayed in Windham to continue farming. Their son Washington Boomer and Elizabeth Jane Smith did the same. The last of the farming generation in the Windham area was Washington’s son Simon Phineas– my great-grandfather.

The stories of these individuals can be accessed through the Boomer drop-down menu at the top of the screen. I am still in the process of writing about each individual generation. More to come!

Fascinating work, Eryne! Your grandfather Ted Boomer is my Dad’s (Ted Francis) Uncle. I’ve always been curious about the American connections in the famiy, with the Depews. I’ve just started to dig into the family tree, so this is really enriching to find. Thanks!

    Hi Eryne,
I noticed that you didn’t have Nathan Boomer b.1838 and Melissa Smith b.1852 on this tree, Nathan was a son to William Boomer b.1813 and Rachel Doane b.1814, and William was a son to William Boomer b.1779 and Elizabeth Wordell b.1784.Nathan Boomer and Melissa Smith had an extended family with one of their sons Abram Doane Boomer b.1873 marrying my great grandmother Amelia Hahn-Stephens b.1883 in 1912, hence her name Amelia Boomer, Amelia was married to a Stephens prior to marrying Abram Boomer just looked at your in 1912, she had three children by an unknown spouse, Evelyn Stephens b.1907, James Richard Stephens b.1908, and William Stephens b. 1909, this where I come in, I am trying to find that unknown spouse, have you ever ran across any Stephens’s in your research?
Also, by leaving out Nathan and Melissa, there is a whole other side of the Boomers from America that you are related to, maybe this is the American link that you have talked about researching.
I just looked at your tree on ancestry.com, and you do list Nathan and Melissa, but all their children are labeled private, I can’t tell if Abram Boomer is listed or not.
