My grandmother Helen Leavoy descends from a family that has been largely based in the Renfrew/Arnprior region of the Ottawa Valley (Ontario). I have traced the family back three generations: to her father, my great-grandfather Gordon William Leavoy, my great-great-grandfather Peter Leavoy before him, and my great-great-great grandfather Achan Levoy. The spelling of the Leavoy name alternates in various documents and generations from “Lavoy” to “Levoy” to “Levway” and “Lavoie”, the difference likely owing to it being a French-Canadian name being anglicized in the move from Quebec (Achan) to Ontario.
The stories of these individuals, and of the McDonnells, the Kennedys, and the Harrowers can be accessed through the Leavoy drop-down menu at the top of the screen. You will also find stories of other Leavoy family members in the extended family research blog where I continue to write a series of articles titled “What Happened to All Those Other Leavoys?…” Links to these individuals will be on the Leavoy family pages. More to come!

Thank you for your Blog!
My name is Kelli, and I am Jessie Crawford’s grand daughter, and our family comes from the Sergent/Crawford/McDonnell’s. I have quite a bit of information, including pictures of the original house in Elphin, Ontario.
Do you have an email where I can send this information if you are interested?
Thank you.

I am writing a biography of one Alexander Fraser (1789-1872) who was born at Fort Augustus while his father Peter Fraser (c1748-Aftr1813) served there with the 6th Royal Veteran Battalion. Alexander later served in the 10th RVB with his father and then with the 49th Foot and was the man who charged the guns at the Battle of Stoney Creek capturing the two American generals. Could you please tell me where the image of Fort Augustus, which appears on this site, came from and if it is in public domain or, if not, who holds copyright?
